In this opening study of the 4th chapter of Proverbs, we continue to look at the instruction and counsel of Solomon to his son. As is the nature of parental instruction, many of the points, insights and exhortations in this chapter have already been addressed in prior chapters. At the same time, some new observations and points of emphasis emerge in this section; namely, that wisdom is not gained quickly, and it is not derived from new-fangled ideas. Rather, the pathway of wisdom is long, it is old, and it is a pathway of Words that must be heard, understood, studied, memorized and applied to everyday life.
