05/26/2024 – Galatians Bible Study – Tim Brown – The illustration of a child coming of age was easily understood. Jews and Gentiles would have known that as long as the heir was a child he was under conditions that were no different from those of a slave. A boy was the potential and rightful owner of everything that belonged to his father. But as a child he was only an heir by legal right not an heir in fact. For now he is under guardians and managers, until a date set by his father. Just as a human father in ancient times set the time of his son’s coming of age, so did God the Father set the time to send forth His Son to the earth. We answered the question, how Jesus, the Son of God could come as a man? How could He be both God and man? We answered this by looking at the theological truth of Kenosis found in Philippians 2:6-8. We also looked at the theological truth of the Hypostatic Union.
