Israel’s inheriting of God’s promises and covenants has always required more than just ethnicity. God’s sovereign grace and election are what make the difference between Israel as a nation and what Paul calls “the children of promise.” The same is true for all Christian believers. What guarantees salvation is not God’s foreknowledge of someone’s future decision of faith, good works, being born into a Christian family, etc., but only the sovereign choice of God.
